AV Safety Forum Workshop: AV Safety Management System (SMS) Framework Design and Proposed Partnerships – Part 1
(September 14, 1pm-3pm ET, virtual)
This session will present the Forum’s ongoing efforts to design an SMS framework that addresses the entire AV value chain, including engineering and manufacturing as well as operations. The session will begin by presenting Strategic Objectives for AV SMS, which have been proposed by members to guide the AV SMS framework design. Each participating member organization will then present the Functional Components of AV SMS that are addressed in their current SMS activities, as well as those that they envision in their future SMS activities. These presentations will be structured using a template to support comparative discussions on the second day of the workshop.
AV Safety Forum Workshop: AV Safety Management System (SMS) Framework Design and Proposed Partnerships – Part 2
(September 15, 1pm-3pm ET, virtual)
This session will begin with a presentation and discussion of two partnership proposals. The first is a proposed Safety Data-Sharing Partnership among AV developer organizations, to support collective safety analyses and risk mitigation initiatives on a scale not possible through the efforts of individual organizations. The second is a proposal to formalize the current Forum in a Safety Method-Sharing Partnership, for exchanging safety management methods and establishing best practices among AV developer organizations. After these proposals, the discussion will revisit Functional Components of AV SMS presented by participants in the first session, to compare across organizations and align with the Strategic Objectives for AV SMS. This discussion will inform the Forum’s ongoing efforts to design and document an SMS framework that addresses the entire AV value chain.
